July events in Austin, TX — concerts, festivals, and things to do

July in Austin: Free Live Music, Festivals, and Things to Do in 2026

July is peak summertime in Austin, which means there’s plenty to do, and much of it is free. This year, July brings Fourth of July festivities including Willie Nelson’s 53rd Fourth of July Picnic, three months of free outdoor musical theater at Zilker, a Broadway run of & Juliet at Bass Concert Hall, and Hot Summer Nights taking over the Red River Cultural District for a free three-day concert festival. Whether you’re planning your trip around one headline event or just looking for a reason to get out of the sun for a few hours, there’s more going on than any one itinerary can hold.

Here are the Heywood Hotel concierge team’s picks for July 2026.

Austin, TX in July 2026: Events and Things to Do

1. Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic

July 4, 2026 | Germania Insurance Amphitheater at COTA

Willie Nelson’s annual Fourth of July Picnic has been an Austin tradition since 1973, when it started in Dripping Springs as what people called the “Hillbilly Woodstock.” This year is the 53rd edition, and the lineup is the strongest it’s been in years. Willie Nelson & Family headlines alongside Billy Strings, Wilco, Sheryl Crow, Lukas Nelson, Stephen Wilson Jr., Margo Price, Rodney Crowell, and Lily Meola. Gates open at 2 p.m., music starts at 3:30 p.m., and the night ends with fireworks.

2. H-E-B Austin Symphony July 4th Concert and Fireworks — Free

July 4, 2026 | Auditorium Shores

The Austin Symphony’s annual Fourth of July concert at Auditorium Shores is a free Austin tradition that never gets old. The main lawn is open to the public, with live music starting at 4:30 p.m., food trucks, activity vendors, and a full fireworks show over Lady Bird Lake to close the night. This year the event is part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Star Spangled Fest also runs daytime programming from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Auditorium Shores if you want to make a full day of it. Bring blankets or lawn chairs, plan for crowds, and arrive early.

3. Zilker Summer Musical: Singin’ in the Rain — Free

July 10–August 15, 2026 | Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater

The Zilker Summer Musical has been running since 1959 and it’s still one of the best things to do in Austin in the summer. This year’s production is Singin’ in the Rain. Performances run every Thursday through Sunday at 8:15 p.m., admission is free, and the setting near Barton Springs makes for a perfect summer evening. Arrive by 7 p.m. to get a good spot on the hillside, and bring a blanket or low lawn chair. Parking is paid this year, with proceeds going toward production costs.

4. Hot Summer Nights — Free

July 16–18, 2026 | Red River Cultural District

Now in its ninth year, Hot Summer Nights is the Red River Cultural District’s free three-day summer music festival. This year’s lineup has more than 130 local acts spread across 15 downtown venues including Mohawk, Stubb’s, Chess Club, Flamingo Cantina, Kingdom, Liberty Lunch, and Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park. Performers include Almost Heaven, Annabelle Chairlegs, Leopold & His Fiction, Me Like Bees and dozens more. On Saturday July 18, Hot Summer Nights also features a pop-up edition of The Front Market by Future Front Texas at Liberty Lunch, with vintage, art, and handmade goods from local makers.

5. Austin FC vs. Seattle Sounders

July 22, 2026 | Q2 Stadium

Austin FC hosts Seattle in a home MLS regular season match at Q2 Stadium. If you haven’t been to Q2 for a game, it’s one of the better stadium experiences in the league, and Austin’s Verde faithful make the atmosphere worth the trip even if soccer isn’t your usual thing. Ticket and kickoff time details at austinfc.com.

6. The Art of Banksy: Without Limits

Through September 7, 2026 | Fair Market, 1100 E 5th St.

The Art of Banksy: Without Limits, a traveling exhibition that has drawn more than three million visitors worldwide, is running in Austin through September 7. See more than 200 pieces of Banksy’s artwork at Fair Market, a 10-minute walk from the Heywood Hotel. The exhibit includes certified original prints, photographs, sculptures, and installations, plus an infinity room, a hologram experience, and a reproduction of Dismaland, the gritty “bemusement park” Banksy built in Weston-super-Mare in 2015. Tickets are $19–$53, with discounts for seniors, students, and groups. Hours are noon–7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday.
