June is one of the best months to be in Austin. The summer heat is settling in, the concert season is fully open, and the city’s calendar fills up in a way that rewards people who plan ahead. Between two major festivals, one of the most significant film series in Austin history, a World Cup watch party scene that’s taken over East Austin, and a concert lineup that spans Bob Dylan to Ariana Grande, there’s no shortage of things to go out for.

Whether you’re planning a trip around one of these events or you’re a local looking for a reason to get out, here are the Heywood Hotel concierge team’s picks for June 2026.

1. Paramount Summer Classic Film Series

Running June through August 30, 2026

June is a particularly special month for the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series, which is in its 52nd year and running through a significant transition. The Paramount Theatre closes in mid-June for its first major renovation in over 50 years. Until then, they’re going out with some of their best screenings, and when the Paramount closes, the series moves to the State Theatre and the Bullock Museum IMAX Theatre.

The June highlights include Jaws on June 16 on the IMAX screen at the Bullock, The Wizard of Oz in 3D on June 23, Jaws and Jurassic Park as a double feature on June 23, and 2001: A Space Odyssey on June 30. This is an Austin tradition, and the temporary farewell to the Paramount makes this particular season feel worth going out of your way for.

2. The Drop-In Summer Concert Series

Every Thursday, May 21–August 13

98.9 KUTX and the Long Center team up every Thursday evening for The Drop-In, a free outdoor concert series on the Long Center lawn, featuring Austin artists across country, pop, R&B, and acid punk. It runs all summer, but June is right in the sweet spot before the peak heat makes outdoor standing a commitment. This is exactly the kind of thing we send guests to when they ask about free live music in Austin.

3. Spurs NBA Finals Watch Parties

The Spurs are back in the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014, and East Austin has you covered for every game. Chalmers, right across the street from the Heywood, is hosting the official Austin watch party for the series. Game 1 is Wednesday, June 3, and the party starts at 6 p.m. with tip-off at 7:30 p.m. It’s 21+, free to attend, and they’ll have giveaways and prizes all night while supplies last. Check their Instagram for game-by-game updates as the series goes on.

If you want to catch the games in a more low-key setting, Zilker Brewing is playing every NBA Finals game in the taproom all month. Both are just a short walk from the Heywood.

4. Armadillo Live, benefitting KUTX

June 5–7, 2026

Armadillo Live is a three-day festival at Central Machine Works honoring the spirit of old Austin, with live music, art, food, local vendors, and a suggested $9.89 donation at the door that goes to KUTX. The weekend runs from a Friday happy hour through a Sunday brunch and covers a lot of ground: White Denim, Holy Wave, The Greyhounds, Arc Iris, Gran Moreno, and Annabelle Chairlegs are all on the bill, alongside a kids show, an Austin music memorabilia swap, and a Cosmic Revival Brunch with Uncle Roy & Spice on Sunday.

5. Music Under the Star at the Bullock Museum

Every Friday in June, starting June 5, 2026

Music Under the Star is a free outdoor concert series that takes place on the Texas Capitol Mall every Friday in June. The lineup is all Texas artists: The 4411 on June 5, country music veteran Rosie Flores on June 12, Tameca Jones on June 19, and Alejandro Escovedo closing out the series on June 26. Food trucks and drinks on site.

6. Blues on the Green

June 9–10, 2026

Blues on the Green is one of Austin’s most beloved summer traditions, and it’s free. Presented by 93.3 KGSR, this annual outdoor concert series returns to Zilker Park for two nights of live music under the stars. Pack a cooler, bring your lawn chairs, and settle in. There are few better ways to spend a summer evening in Austin.

7. FIFA World Cup 2026 Watch Parties in Austin

June 11 through July 19, 2026

The World Cup kicks off June 11 and Austin is fully in it. Austin FC has turned East Austin venue Inn Cahoots into a free, 37-day soccer hub beginning June 13, with live viewings for every match of the tournament. If you want to watch the opening matches on a proper big screen, Austin FC is hosting a free outdoor viewing experience at Auditorium Shores on June 11 and 12, with the opening matches featuring Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Registration is required and capacity is 5,000, so plan ahead.

8. Austin Monthly’s Burger Bash

June 13, 2026

Austin Monthly’s fourth annual Burger Bash is exactly what it sounds like: an afternoon at Moody Amphitheater where you work your way through 25 burgers from some of the best spots in the city, smashed, smoked, seasoned, and wood-fired. The event runs from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Your ticket covers burger bites, fries, sweet treats, and non-alcoholic drinks. The VIP option at 11:30 a.m. is worth it if you want to skip the lines and get in an hour early. Live music and a game zone round it out.

9. Central Texas Juneteenth Parade & Celebration

June 19, 2026

The Central Texas Juneteenth celebration is one of the oldest and most meaningful community events in Austin, held each year in historic East Austin at Rosewood Neighborhood Park at 2300 Rosewood Ave. The day begins with a parade featuring floats and live entertainment, followed by an all-day festival with food vendors and local community gathering. It’s free, it’s a piece of Austin history, and it takes place right here in East Austin near the Heywood Hotel.

10. Austin Area Urban League Freedom Fest

June 19, 2026

Also happening on Juneteenth is Freedom Fest, hosted by the Austin Area Urban League. The event brings together a full day of culture, music, food, and community celebration in East Austin. It’s a larger-scale Juneteenth event and well worth adding to the day alongside the Rosewood Park celebration.

11. Barbecue Showdown at Smoke, Omni Barton Creek

June 20, 2026

The Barbecue Showdown features pitmasters from Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama competing under the Hill Country sky, with a celebrity judging panel deciding who takes the title. Team Texas is led by John Bates of InterStellar BBQ. Team Oklahoma by Kevin Lee of Birdies. Team Alabama by Chris Lilly of Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q. Live music from Clay Walker and Channing Wilson, curated cocktails, and fireworks to close it out. Tickets are $179 for adults. Plan for a ride out to the Hill Country.

June 24, 26 & 27, 2026

Ariana Grande is back on the road for the first time in years, and Austin is getting three nights. Her Eternal Sunshine Tour stops at Moody Center on June 24, 26, and 27 — her only Texas dates on the entire tour. If you’re planning a trip to Austin and this is on your list, this is the week to come.

13. Austin Asian American Film Festival (AAAFF)

June 24–28, 2026

Now in its 18th year, the Austin Asian American Film Festival is a five-day celebration of Asian and Asian American cinema at AFS Cinema. The festival showcases feature films and shorts from Asian and Asian American filmmakers, with filmmakers in attendance, awards, and events throughout the week. One of those festivals that consistently punches well above its size.

14. Austin African American Book Festival

June 27, 2026 at George Washington Carver Museum

The Austin African American Book Festival is a free, one-day literary event at the George Washington Carver Museum celebrating Black literature, culture, and connection, with notable speakers and authors presenting their work and leading conversations. Now in its 20th year, the festival has been a fixture in the community.

15. Bob Dylan

June 29, 2026

Bob Dylan closes out the month at Moody Amphitheater on June 29, with Lucinda Williams and John Doe Folk Trio opening. That’s a serious bill for a Sunday night in Austin, and the outdoor setting at Moody is one of the better places in the city to catch a show in the summer.
